DAY 1
8 March 2013
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were to spend a few days at a naturist resort? That was precisely the thought that crossed my mind as I rode in a car driven by the President of Taiwan's Naturist Association towards a delightful little resort in the middle of a high mountain range in some secluded spot in Taiwan which is only accessible by a long road that meanders nauseatingly round the mountain range.
It was about 3:45pm when we arrived at the resort which consists of a large house with two large and beautifully landscaped baths just next to the house. The first thing I did was to put my luggage in my room. It did not take long before I got out of my clothes and it was time to join the rest of the people in the hot springs. I brought my camera with me and had a first shot taken just outside the house.
NOTE: Out of consideration for the other naturists, I will post very small photos which will give my readers a glimpse of the beauty of the various places without betraying the identities of the other naturists or intruding into their privacy.
In front of me is the house and behind me lies a steep and precipitous drop.
As you can see, the resort is surrounded by mountains and greenery.
This was my first "exposure" (pardon the pun) to the rest of the people from the Taiwan Naturist Association.
What really puzzled me was my reaction to the entire situation. Contrary to what others might expect of a person who has never been to a nudist resort before, I did not feel like a fish out of water. I felt perfectly at home and not the least bit self-conscious.
Here is one of the two pools with water from hot springs
For most people, going naked in a hot spring even if it is an outdoor mixed gender bath is not all that unusual. You may well ask what the reaction of a first-time naturist is when it's time for dinner with other fellow naturists. Soaking naked in a bath is not really out of the ordinary but having dinner without clothes would seem quite unnatural to most people. That was what occurred to me that evening when someone announced that it was dinner time.
Everyone proceeded to leave the pools and we all took our seats at a large table. In the nude. But I really felt no different from how I would have felt if I had been dressed in a tie and a jacket except that I was of course more comfortable naked and without the restrictions of clothes. Nudity is so natural that one is not even conscious of one's nudity. When I try to recall the dinner, all I can remember is the delicious spread on the dining table and the fact that we were nude does not feature at all.
Dinner time
That was my first day in a nudist setting. Instead of feeling embarrassed and self-conscious as anyone would expect a newbie like me to feel, I was most natural and literally comfortable in my own skin.

DAY 2
9 March 2013
Some of us began the morning with a nude trek up the slope outside the resort. It was a little chilly at that hour of the morning but a little walk was all it took before our bodies started to heat up comfortably. The good thing about a nude workout is perspiration is not trapped in the clothes.
Because we were already up on the mountainside, the view was breath-taking throughout our walk. At every turn, we could see mountains basking in the early morning sunlight. Some of the trails were paved with flowers and the walk gave us many great photo opportunities.
The early morning exertion was immediately followed by breakfast, after which we were back in the hot springs and at about 9:30am, we posed for a group photograph. It was soon time to check out of this resort and to head for our next resort about half an hour away by car.

The new resort we went to occupies a large sprawling area that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The entire area is beautifully landscaped and hedges speckled with bright flowers flank both sides of the footpaths.
Later that afternoon, some of us set off for another resort which didn't look as pretty as the resort we were staying in. We took a group photo anyway.
Back in our own resort, most of us sat at various strategic spots watching the sun set beyond the Pacific Ocean before we had a sumptuous dinner over the barbecue pit.

DAY 3
10 March 2013
Rising before the sun did, a few of us rushed to the beach shortly after 5:30am in time to watch the first rays of sunshine piercing the grey sky. As we sat on the beach looking out into the vast ocean, a beach ranger came by in his buggy which he gamely let us use for photo shoots.

Later that morning, some of us indulged in sports such as badminton. Just imagine playing badminton while having at all times a splendid view of the Pacific Ocean.
Lunch followed immediately after and it was time for some of us to take the train back to Taipei.
Now that I have gone through my first naturist experience, what is my honest opinion of it? Contrary to what the world seems to think, naturism is not about sex. It's really nothing more than a wholesome, healthy lifestyle characterized by self-acceptance not commonly seen in the textile world. Textile is a non-judgmental word used by naturists to refer to those who do not adopt nudism. While most of us are hung up on our perceived bodily imperfections (we're either too skinny or too fat), a naturist is at peace with himself and he has no need to hide any part of his body. I cannot even begin to understand how anyone can legitimately criticize naturism or view it with the smallest negativity when all it does is to correct the many wrong notions that society has instilled into the average person. Naturism embraces humanity as a whole and drives home the point that we should accept the body that nature has given to each one of us and that we should not be motivated by shame and fear. Can any reasonable person possibly fault such a wholesome worldview?
I have been very privileged to have gone with the Taiwan Naturist Association for my first naturist experience. They are extremely hospitable, courteous, polite, friendly and welcoming in every possible way.
I took a lot of photos to show to my very conservative wife and guess what? She now wants to go with me to my next naturist resort and it's got to be with the Taiwan Naturist Association!
